You love spontaneous pictures, but when a camera turns towards you, you do not know what to do with your hands. Tell your photographer before the wedding. That information is more useful than learning a list of poses.
Explain what feels difficult
Some people dislike looking at the camera; others worry about leaving guests for too long or not recognising themselves in the photographs. These concerns need different answers. Describe what you enjoy in a picture and what you would rather avoid.
Mention gestures or staged situations that do not feel like you. The session is built around your relationship, not a performance borrowed from another couple.
Choose somewhere comfortable
A spot near the reception may be enough. Think about light, space to move and how you feel there. A spectacular location offers little benefit if you arrive rushed, uncomfortable with passers-by or worried about getting back.
Talk about clothing, footwear and access. Walking together can be a starting point for photographs, but portraits should not require an uncomfortable journey.
Expect understandable guidance
A natural portrait can begin with a simple suggestion: move closer, walk together or take a moment to look at each other. Guidance should help you settle into the moment rather than ask you to perform.
At Trentième Étage, we discuss how portraits fit your celebration, how much time to keep and when you return to your guests. We can talk about the kind of direction you find helpful.

Find a suitable moment
There is no single correct hour. The decision depends on the light, location, programme and moments you want to spend with guests. Compare portraits before the ceremony with a short break during drinks.

Do you need a session before the wedding?
A couple session can introduce you to being photographed if you want one. It is not a test you have to pass. Ask what it includes and costs, then decide whether it would be useful for you.
On the wedding day, the aim is a little time together and photographs of your connection. Quiet, playful or reserved: you do not have to become a different couple for the camera.
